Arbie was born in Waverly Twp., Marshall County, South Dakota on July 27, 1925 (the family lived in Britton) and he passed away on February 4, 2010 after a long term battle with illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margaret.
Arbie was the ninth child of eleven children. He served in the United States Navy, October 12, 1943 to April 20, 1946. He was living in Redondo Beach, California at the time he entered the Navy.
Arbie came to Ukiah from Los Angeles County, where he owned a Sanitation company. He owned a Vacation Lodge in Lake County for several years and a Motel in Willits for awhile. He worked for Orchard Shopping Center as their gardener and grounds keeper. There he met and became the mentor of a 17 year old, Efrain Vega.
AC was a dedicated member of the Ridgewood Lodge #146 Free and Accepted Masons of Ukiah and affiliated with the Siminoff, Day Light Lodge at the Masonic Home in Union City. AC supported the Masonic Order by becoming a Member of the Royal Arch, Commandry, Scottish Rite, Aahmes Shrine, York Rite, Knights Templar, Past Patron Eastern Star, a Member of the Pomo Shrine Club and Greeters.
Arbie is survived by the wife of his golden years, Verna Pierson, his two sisters, Lillian Brown and Madelyn Evert, his daughter Barbara Johnson and husband Gene, step children James Willburn and wife Corinne, Leona Neuerburg and husband Ron, Janet Auguadro and husband Ed and many grand and great grandchildren.
AC was a resident of the Masonic Home at 34400 Mission Blvd. Union City, CA 94587-3604. In lieu of flowers the family asks that those wishing to do so make a donation in his name to the Masonic Home.
A Memorial Masonic Service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11 am at the Ukiah Masonic Hall, 205 West Perkins Street. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
