(October 22, 1926 to January 25, 2012
)
Resident of
Redwood Valley, California
Obituary:
Roy Adreveno, Sr., age 85, of Redwood Valley died January 25 at home. His family was at his side.
Roy was born and raised in Colma, California to GioBatta Adreveno and Maria Garibaldi Adreveno (both immigrants from Genoa, Italy). He only spoke Italian prior to attending an English speaking school. He told the story of having to learn very quickly to hold his hand up when needing to use the bathroom. In 1943, at the age of 17, Roy joined the Navy during WWII and served on a destroyer in the Pacific until the war ended.
In 1948 he met and fell in love with Stella Pacini of Ukiah. Roy and Stella married in 1950 at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. They had four children: Cindy Bowker (Joseph, Oregon), Chris Hoffman (Hayden, Idaho), Sue Zanetell (So. Lake Tahoe, California), and Roy Adreveno Jr. (Redwood Valley, California). Roy and Stella are survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. There is one deceased grand-daughter. Roys brother Albert Adreveno lives with his wife Eda in Half Moon Bay, California.
Roy retired as superintendent from the Russian River Cemetery District after 30 years, 1951-1981. He spent most holidays at the Cemetery in order to help people locate plots of loved ones and also to personally place flowers for others. Roy was a long time volunteer with the Redwood Valley Calpella Fire Department; he started as a rookie in 1958 and retired in 1997 as an Assistant Chief. At times in his life he also held memberships in the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and Ukiah Golf Club. For the last several years he was employed part-time seasonally for Parducci Winery.
During his life, Roys free time was largely dedicated to hunting, fishing, golfing, mushroom hunting, and card games but what he really enjoyed was a good debate or discussion. He was most known for his gardening and horticulture knowledge and others constantly sought his expertise and advice.
A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, January 31, 11:00 a.m. at Eversole Mortuary, Low Gap Road in Ukiah. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the Redwood Valley Calpella Fire Department, Phoenix Hospice of Willits, 100 San Hedrin Circle, Willits CA or the charity of your choice.
