Obituary:
Roy Gordon Albright
Roy Gordon Albright passed gently and with dignity from this life at the age of 96 years at his home in Ukiah with his family by his side on Sunday October 17, 2010. Born on June 21, 1914 in Joplin, Missouri, he loved to share his memories of how he and his family traveled cross country by car in 1924 to start a new life in California. He remained in California for the rest of his life settling in the Sacramento and Auburn areas and eventually moving to Ukiah in 1967. He and his high school sweetheart, Cora Jane Corky McGarvey, married in 1937 and had 58 years together. They raised two children and enjoyed many years of travel around the world. Roy had a long career with the Pacific Telephone Company, starting as a lineman and retiring in 1974 as engineering manager of Mendocino and Lake counties. Before retiring he was very active in civic affairs, serving 6 years on the Ukiah planning commission and was also involved with the Ukiah Lions Club. He enjoyed the hobbies of gardening, golf and working with wood, leaving us many wonderful examples of his woodworking skills. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Provident #609 for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Knights Templar and Royal Arch Masons, Pomo Shrine Club and Aahmees Temple. He was a long time member of the Telephone Pioneers. His family will miss his wise and thoughtful guidance. Always a gentleman we learned many life lessons from him. A very patient man, he lived his life with dignity and humor and enjoyed the simple pleasures of family and home. He was actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was the center of our family. He is survived by his son Stephen, and his wife Wendy, of Leighton Buzzard, England, and his daughter Nancy Blancett, and her husband Leroy of Potter Valley. Also surviving are grandsons Mark Albright, Chris Blancett and Greg Blancett and granddaughters Shelley Bazzani and Amanda Albright. He leaves great grandchildren Ashley, Tyler, Nicholas, Thomas, Alex and Adam. Roy was predeceased by his wife Cora Jane, his parents Rush and Fannie Albright and 5 brothers and sisters. The family would like to express our deep appreciation to his wonderful caregivers for their loving and gentle care and bringing special joy to his days. We would also like to thank the Phoenix Hospice staff for all their compassionate help. At his request no formal service will be held, just a family gathering. The family would like you to remember Roy with a smile for he was a wonderful man. Memorial remembrances may be made to Phoenix Hospice in Willits, CA. Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
