Sonia Elida Ribeiro Anzilotti passed away on September 10, 2015 in Ukiah, CA. Sonia was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil on April 30, 1952 to Irece Ribeiro Anzilotti and Piero Giorgio Anzilotti. Sonia lived in Brasil until she moved with her family to the United States in 1960.

Her family eventually settled in Ukiah, CA where Sonia attended Yokayo Elementary, Pomolita Middle School, and graduated from Ukiah High School in 1971. In her youth Sonia enjoyed reading numerous books and French literature, swimming for the Ukiah Dolphins, helping raise animals with her mother and father on the family ranch, and spending time with her friends. Sonia was always quick to befriend the “new” person in class, and many of those friendships lasted her lifetime.

While attending college she fell in love with the radical ideas, music, and culture of that era. It was also at this time where she moved to Washington State and started her career as a librarian and, her favorite job… mother. After 10 years in Washington, she and her family moved back home to the family ranch in Talmage. She continued to surround herself with her love of books by working at the Mendocino County Library, and later for Ukiah Unified School District, where she was instrumental in the success of numerous local school libraries. Upon retiring from UUSD, Sonia began working for The Mendocino Book Company, and more recently as the librarian for St. Mary of the Angels Catholic School. Family always came first for Sonia, but her students whom she inspired to find their own passion for books, held a special place in her heart. Also during her retirement, she enjoyed her trips home to Brasil, and most recently her solo adventure to Cuba…Viva la Revolución!

Sonia is survived by her husband, Joe Crudo; daughters Aundrea Spencer (Adam) and Josie Anzilotti-Batis; grandson Bennett Spencer; step-daughter Amy Magnus; sister Dina Anzilotti; brother Alex Anzilotti (Sue); niece Isabella Anzilotti; nephew Dominic Anzilotti; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in Brasil and Italy; and her dogs Rio and Havana.
