Barbara Ann Blair Pittman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024 at the age of 92, following a sudden stroke.
The middle child of William (Ed)win and Edith Myrl Blair, Barbara was born on October 19, 1932 in Happy Camp, Calif. She lived her early years in Superior, Arizona until moving to Ukiah, Calif. and beginning the 8th grade. She married Charles Herbert Pittman on May 26, 1951 and they were blessed to hold hands through 65 wonderful years of marriage before his death in 2016.
She always thought she was lucky to be born in the best of times. Known as Mom, Grandma Pete, G-Ma, Grammie or Gammie, she will be sorely missed and never forgotten by all of her family, having connected with and loved each one in a very special way. She was always genuinely interested in what they were doing, never wanting to miss a game, play or recital. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a devoted housewife, dedicated Camp Fire Girl leader, themed party planner (pre-Hallmark) and a patriotic American who loved her country, very proud of her early roots and Mayflower ancestry, all those who contributed so much to its history. A genealogist extraordinaire, who not only traced her own family tree extensively, but crisscrossed the country many times doing research for countless others in the days before any online help was available. An avid reader, collector, rose gardener, pinochle player and lover of chocolate, living in her "forever house" for 70 years, she was happiest spending special time with her family, especially loving the holidays with their many time-honored traditions.
She is survived by her four children, Valerie (Joe) Cucco of Napa, Calif., Cheryl Pittman of Santa Rosa, Calif., Darla (Ed) Rodgers of Chico, Calif., and Chuck (Traci) Pittman of Ukiah, Calif.; eleven grandchildren, Joanna Cucco, Laura (Ben) Green, Caren Cucco, Lukas (Aimee) Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan (Joelle) Rodgers, Ashlin Pittman, Chad (Tatum) Pittman, Annie Jenkins, William (Mary) Jenkins and Emily Jenkins; eleven great-granchildren, Antonia and Juliet Cuevas, Thatcher and Meara Green, Delilah, Cody and Robert Jenkins, Maci Hairston, Jack and Evie Rodgers and Evie Pittman. She is also survived by her sister Ruth I. Miller, numerous nieces and nephews and her best friend of 80 years Nelcyne Wright. She was predeceased by her husband Chuck and her brother William (Bill) Blair Jr.
A private service will be held with arrangements under the direction of Eversole Mortuary in Ukiah, Calif.
