Obituary:
Roy Eugene Blankenship passed away September 2, 2010 at home, surrounded by his family. Roy was known by those who knew him well as Sam, and was born April 20, 1928 in Cato, Missouri to Thomas Jefferson Blankenship and Effie Lisifit Snider. He spent his early years in Cato, Missouri.
In 1989, he married Hazel Pauline Williams. Roy was an auto mechanic, through the years; he began his early career delivering milk for Pleasant View Diary, later working for Masonite, after retiring from his military experience, then Redwood Tree Service Station and finally Bernies Car Care. He loved mechanic work and loved his family.
Roy was a WWII Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Engineers, given the rank of Corporal. He served two plus years in Japan immediately following the dropping of the atom bomb on Hiroshima. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. He was member of the American Legion and a teamster.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Pauline Blankenship of Ukiah, daughter Jaunita Coddington and husband Tom of Lakeport, son Sam Williams and wife Vickie of Ohio, 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren as well as his twin sisters Wanda Clevenger and Norma Rainwater of Aurora, Missouri and brother Troy Blankenship of Aurora, Missouri. Roy is preceded in death by his former wife Florence Ames, brothers Cleo and Stanley Blankenship and his parents Thomas and Effie Blankenship
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Inurnment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens will be private at a later date.
