(October 05, 1916 to October 13, 2012 )
Resident of Ukiah, California

Obituary:
Loretta May Book of Ukiah died peacefully on October 13, 2012, with her family at her side. She was 96 years old.
Loretta was born in Correctionville, Iowa, on October 5, 1916, to Henry and Anna Andersen. She was one of 10 children. When she was 25, Loretta came to California and met her future husband Arnold in the San Francisco Bay Area. They moved to Ukiah in 1946, where they raised three children. Loretta was a happy, fun-loving person who enjoyed sharing stories about the highlights of her life: growing up as an Iowa farm girl, working in the Alameda shipyards during World War II, selling Stanley home products and women’s apparel in Ukiah, helping Arnold build the three houses in which they lived, and participating in the Ukiah Dance Club and the Elks’ Wandering Wapitis. Loretta was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church. She loved her church, and she was deeply grateful for the kindness of her friends there. She loved living in Ukiah, too, and always appreciated the natural beauty of the valley. Her husband Arnold was a retired police captain for the City of Ukiah; he died in 2005. Loretta is survived by her daughters Marlis De Wall Robinson and Teresa Book Webster and their husbands, son Steven Book and his wife, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sisters Avis Myers and Nancy Cook of Nevada, sister-in-law Peggy Andersen of Ukiah, brother Wayne Andersen of Boston, and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Eversole Mortuary. The funeral will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 560 Park Boulevard, in Ukiah on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Ukiah Cemetery. A reception will follow at Faith Lutheran Church.
Donations may be made in Loretta's name to Faith Lutheran Church in Ukiah.
