Obituary:
Marjorie Boyd
Born in Chicago on March 25, 1925, Marjorie first came to California during the Second World War to work as an accountant is Oakland. Returning to Chicago she met William Buck Boyd at a USO event near Lake Geneva, they married soon thereafter. After serving two tours in Korea, Buck returned and he and Marjorie moved to Southern California. He became an IBEW electrician and labor leader and she continued to work as an accountant and bookkeeper.
Marge made local headlines in Barstow in the 1980s when plans to route a train of nuclear waste through Barstow were made public. She and her friend Bea Muller publicly stated their intentions to block the train by chaining themselves across the tracks if need be. Dubbed the no nuke grannies by local media, the stir ended without conflict when the department of energy quietly found a different and less controversial route for the train. Bea and Marge returned to less public forms of advocacy.
Her proudest accomplishment was raising her two sons, Doug and Bob Boyd. Doug became a CPA with his own offices in Barstow, California and Topock, Arizona. Bob is a lawyer who has practiced in Ukiah, California for nearly a decade. Marjories greatest joy was watching her enormously charismatic grandson Jesse develop into the fine young man he is today.
Recently she made many friends while living at Brookside which was a very pleasant time for her.
She was always fiercely independent, self-guided and hard-working. She is truly missed by many who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Marge is survived by her son Bob Boyd of Ukiah, grandson Jesse Boyd of Ukiah and sister Elanor Dunlap of Laguna Beach. She was preceded in death by her son Doug Boyd.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to SPACE are preferred.
Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
