Betty Adele Bonnikson Brooks

Passed away in her Ukiah home May 6, 2012 at the age of 90. Surrounded by her family, serenaded by song, and guided by a “super moon” befitting the super mom that she was. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years William H. Brooks III.
Betty was a lifelong resident of California. Born in Chico, California Jan. 18, 1922 to Dr. Harry and Claire Bonnikson. She grew up in Sacramento attending C.K. McClatchy High School and then later graduating from the University of California at Berkeley.
Betty and Bill moved to Ukiah in 1948 where Betty taught home economics until she retired in 1982. Hundreds of girls passed through her classroom learning the basics of cooking and sewing.
Before her stroke in the summer of 2007, Betty was active in Eastern Star, AAUW, Daughters of the Nile, Sun House Society and had been a 4-H leader for over 25 years. Together she and Bill enjoyed extensive traveling, playing bridge and were active in the Pomo Shrine club.
Above all Betty and Bill enjoyed following their grandchildren’s various sports activities. They could be seen in their matching green folding chairs with hats and water bottles watching soccer, tennis, football, cheerleading, basketball, golf or track.
Betty is survived by her two daughters Bonnie and Babbie. Her sons in law Jim Strong and Jim Mayfield. Five grandchildren; Steven, Stacey and Scott Strong. James and his wife Anna Mayfield, Jillian Mayfield and fiancé Mike Tindall.
The family would like to thank La Kitchner, Betty’s loving companion and caregiver the past year and a half. Also thanks to Phoenix Hospice.
