Obituary:
Barbara Ann Brown, 87, passed away peacefully September 26, 2013 surrounded by family. Barbara was born May 5, 1926 in Grass Valley, California to Leon and Dorothy (Dot) Hooper. Barbara graduated from Ukiah High School and then attended business college in Grass Valley. After school, Barbara moved back to Ukiah, where in 1946 she married Robert Brown after his return from service in World War II and they started a family. In 1957, Barbara, her husband and children moved to Sacramento, California where Bob became Executive V.P. of the California Taxpayers Association. Barbaras time in Sacramento was devoted to her career in the medical field and raising her children. When her husband became President of the National Tax Foundation, Inc. in 1974, they relocated to the east coast. Barbara had an active life with her husband in the Washington D.C. area. Upon Roberts retirement in 1989, they returned to California and built their dream home in the Sierra Foothills in the little community of Dutch Flat. They enjoyed welcoming children, grandchildren and friends to their beautiful home in a peaceful setting ~ serenity. Following her husbands death in 1994, Barbara returned to her roots in Ukiah, California. She reconnected with family and old friends and was an active member in the United Methodist Church. In 2006, Barbara moved to Reno to be closer to her children. Barbara made many new friends and participated in community events in the Reno area. Barbara remained very young and active with her family and friends until her final days.
Barbara was a talented artist, golf enthusiast and fierce bocce ball player. She was beloved by her children, grand children and great-grand children.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents and her brother, Jim. Barbara is survived by her sister Shirley, her three children, Renona, Robert (Barbara Gilroy), and Randen (Linda); six grandchildren, Christopher, Dale, Cierra (Jenna), Jason, Matthew (Jen) and Jimi; three great-grand children, Megan, Samantha and Emily; extended family and numerous friends.
Services will be held Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Eversole Mortuary, 141 Low Gap Road, Ukiah, California.
A memorial service will also be held in Reno, Nevada at a later date to be announced.
