Milton Ray Brown
Ray passed away October 28, 2014 at age 92 surrounded by family. He is survived by his daughter Raylene Neustel (Dennis), son Mike Brown (Sherry), and daughter-in-law Pat Davis; grandchildren Tamara Neustel (Jeff Norton) Eric Davis (Michael Carlone), Tina Neustel (Hector Perez), Marc Brown (Whitney), Denise Johnson (Marcus), Yvette Brown, Christopher Davis, Patrick Davis, Matthew Davis; 6 great grandchildren Wendy Warner, Dillon Warner, Caitlin Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Lucy Dougherty and Drexel Brown. Ray was preceded in death by his parents H.W. Brown Brownie and Mae MacDonald; wife Dot Brown; brother Bob Brown; sister Joy Holmes; son Larry Davis.
Ray was born October 11, 1922, on the Rising River Ranch in Cassel, CA and graduated from Gridley High School. He proudly served in the US Navy in World War II as a pharmacist mate in the South Pacific. He married Dot Eads in 1945 and upon leaving the Navy, they settled in Ukiah. Ray worked for his father at Brownies Market. Ray later owned and operated the Ukiah Liquor Store. The family moved to Potter Valley in 1954 where Ray and Dot managed Hoppers Corner Grocery Store for ten years; then he managed the Potter Valley General Store until his retirement in the mid 1980s. While in Potter Valley Ray served on the Potter Valley School Board and was a volunteer fireman. Ray and Dot returned to Ukiah in 1987. Ray was a member of the Shriners and charter member of the Ukiah Elks; and past member of the Ukiah Mens Golf Club. He was passionate about fishing, hunting and golfing.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Ukiah Elks Lodge, 1200 Hastings Road, Ukiah. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made in Rays name to the CA-HI Elks Major Project, 5450 East Lamona Ave., Fresno, CA 93727-2224 or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
