Sophie Marie Cambra
Sophie Marie Cambra, daughter of Fred and Louise Baade was born February 17th, 1930 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She attended elementary and high school in Plover, Iowa. Sophie was a telephone operator in Titonka, Iowa for a number of years. She moved to Ukiah, California, where she met her future husband Tony Cambra. They were married October 14th, 1956 in the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka, Iowa.
They built their home in Redwood Valley, California. They were blessed with 3 children: Debbie, Donnie and Gary. Sophie spent many years doing childcare for numerous families. All these children became part of Sophies family.
Sophies greatest love was family. She also enjoyed going to ball games, keeping stats and cheering her teams on. You could always find Sophie and Tony at every sports event around. She and her family did a lot of camping and traveling. Her favorite trip was going back to Iowa for family reunions.
Sophie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah and had been a Sunday School teacher in past years.
Surviving her are her daughter Debbie Holland and husband Dave of Redwood Valley, son Gary Cambra and wife Linda of Lakeport, grandchildren Chris and Kayla Holland, Cody Cambra of Danville, Pennsylvania, Suzanne Hamlin and husband Sean, great grandchildren Aiden, Ella and Hannah Hamlin of Edmond, Oklahoma. She is also survived by sister Evelyn Wise of Ukiah and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Louise Baade, son Donnie, husband Tony, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Sophie will always be remembered for her caring, loving nature for all and having a heart of gold. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at the Ukiah First Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Ukiah Cemetery.
