Obituary:
Donna Marie Souder Christian of Ukiah, CA passed peacefully on June 7th, 2018 . She was born October 19, 1946 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to John and Dorothy Souder, she was 71 at the time of her death. Donna has lived in Ukiah, California for 39 years. Prior to that, she lived in Eureka for 12 years where she raised her daughters Donna and Heather. She originally moved north from San Diego in 1972. As a Navy child, Donna lived in Hawaii, and Kwajalein in the Marshall islands before her family settled in San Diego around 1957. Donna held a master’s degree in education from Dominican College, a bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State University and an associate’s degree from College of the Redwoods. Donna began her career as an eligibility worker at Social Services in Humboldt County, next she worked for PG&E and later in life was able to fulfill her dream of becoming an English teacher and worked at various Ukiah elementary schools. Donna’s last position was with the Mendocino Department of Social Services, from which she retired. Donna loved spending time with her family, friends and her beloved dogs Bella Luna and Marquis, who will now find a home with her daughter, Heather. Donna was a life long learner, an accomplished poet and photographer. Donna loved art, music, dancing, good food and bird watching. Donna will be remembered by her friends and family for her wonderful wit and her love of life. Donna is survived by her daughters, Donna Marie Christian of Amarillo, Texas, Heather Lea Clarke of Oceanside, CA, her sister Diana Souder of San Diego, CA and her granddaughters Leia Christian of Junction City, CA, Alendria O’Connor, Myriah Christian and Keona Christian of Oceanside, CA. Services will be held at Ukiah United Methodist Church on September 1st at 10am.
