Obituary:
Vernon Curly Clark
Vernon Curly Clark passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 21, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Curly was born in Albion, CA on June 7, 1920 to Lester Scott and Clara Clark. His family moved to Potter Valley in the twenties where they began their pear growing years. Curly spent many happy hours hunting, fishing, checking his trap lines and playing baseball when he wasn't working on the ranch. After graduating in 1938, he worked for a couple of years in the sierras for PG&E. Immediately after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Curly enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served aboard the PC 623 in the Pacific theater for four years. After the war, Curly returned home to Potter Valley to help his father on the ranch. It wasn't long before he met Norma Woolley who became his wife of 46 years until her death in 1992. Together they had three children, Ken Clark (Adel), Judy Carter (Rick), and Scott Clark (Donna). Curly had nine grandchildren: Mike Clark, Stacey Clark Caico, Katie Clark, Robert Clark, Jason Carter, Jill Carter Damian, Adam Clark, Ben Clark, and Amy Clark. Curly was blessed with seventeen great-grandchildren, his best friend of nearly ninety years, Bud Bilstein and his faithful four-legged companion, Sam.
Curly was known as an avid gardener, hunter, fisherman, trapper, storyteller and overall character. He was generous with everything he had whether it be produce, fish, buck meat, or his love of family and life. He was also involved in many community organizations throughout the years such as the Potter Valley Irrigation District Board, the Potter Valley Grange, P.V. H.S. Booster Club, Potter Valley Volunteer Firemen, Farm Bureau, and a charter member of the Busch Creek Hunting Club. As he grew older he would often say, I've had a great life, and I'm ready to make room for the young ones. Curly was predeceased by his wife Norma, brother Larry Clark, and sisters Doris Eddie and Vera Wipf.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Potter Valley Methodist Church Roof Fund or the Potter Valley Fire Dept. The family would also like to express our deep gratitude to his wonderful caregivers, Kimberley Laws, Cheri Franklin and Amy Clark.
For those wishing to brave the weather, there will be a graveside service at the Potter Valley Cemetery on Sat., Nov. 29 at 11:00 A.M. The family would be honored to have all wishing to celebrate Curly's life, join us for lunch at the Elks Lodge, 1200 Hastings Rd., Ukiah at 1:00 P.M. There will also be a viewing at Eversole Mortuary between 5:00 and 7:00 P.M. on Fri., Nov. 28.
