Obituary:
Gladys C. Cornell passed away quietly at the age of 91 on May 12th. Born on St. Patricks day and originally a New Yorker, she traveled to California with her husband and children in the early 1960s. Although she embraced the California lifestyle, Gladys was always a New Yorker and Irish at heart.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Slim and sons Arnold Arnie and Donald Don. She is survived by her sister Gloria Vasquez, son Joseph Kulka (Marie) and grandchildren: Jeff Cornell, Brian Cornell, Colette Ervin (Brian), Cynthia Cornell (Mark Stover), Genai McWilliams, Tami Cole, Emily Mechtenberg (Karl) and Eric Cornell, Skylar Kulka (Vicky), Jennifer Kulka and Cody Kulka and many great-grandchildren.
Gladys had many interests and pledge herself wholeheartedly to her endeavors - be it writing, composing soulful songs in memory of her beloved husband and grandmother, handling a CB radio, riding motorcycles, 5k runs/half marathons, organizing street parties or community swim program for youths. She was known by her family, friends and neighbors as loving a good prank (many times the orchestrator) and having a sense of humor. In her later years in Ukiah you could find Gladys traveling through town on her red bike and spending time with her dog Charlie Brown and grandkids. A constant throughout her life was her love of animals and writing. Her strong spirit and sense of humor will be missed by family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend graveside services at the Russian River Cemetery on May 25 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be made to an SPCA.
