)
Resident of
Willits, California
Obituary:
Heaven rejoiced at the homecoming of Russell Julion Davenport as he peacefully left this world on June 23, 2011 with his family by his side after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.
Born on July 29, 1935 in Versailles, Missouri, Russell began making his way as an adult at a young age, working in the fields of Missouri and then California along with a few of his brothers. Later he began his career as a heavy equipment operator, first on the Mendocino County coast and later in Ukiah during which time he worked for many companies including Hollow Tree, Thrashers and Masonite.
Russell also was blessed with a large, loving family and a strong faith. These two things sustained him not only in the good, but also through the difficult days of life. As a member of North Shore Christian Fellowship in Upper Lake, he found a caring church family who welcomed him with open hearts.
Missing Russell deeply are his loving wife, Mary Davenport; his sons David Davenport and Russell Davenport; his step-sons David Smith (Trish), Larry Smith (Dorothy), and Chris Smith (Kimberly); and several brothers and sisters. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Russell was predeceased by Faye Davenport, his son Jeffrey Davenport, and several siblings.
An informal burial service will be held at Russian River Cemetery on Low Gap Road in Ukiah on Tuesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. A celebration of life potluck will be held on Friday, July 1 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Golden Rule Trailer Park clubhouse, 16100 N. Highway 101, Willits. Arrangements are under the direction of Eversole Mortuary.
The family hopes that in lieu of flowers, donations will be made in memory of Russell to Phoenix Hospice of Willits in recognition of the gentle, supportive care provided by them.
