Obituary:
Fred G. deZara, died in Ukiah at a local hospital on Tuesday February 9, 2010. Age 86, Fred was a resident of Redwood Valley for 26 years. Freds occupations included the US Postal Service and he worked in construction. He enjoyed team roping, rodeo, the Old Timers Rodeo, REQHA, PRCA. He was also a member of the Sheriff Reserve in Southern California. Fred served his country in the United States Marine Corp for 12 ½ years, attaining the rank of TSgt participating in the Battle of Solomon Islands, Tulagi Island, Gudadalcanal, Tarawa Atoll on board USS Harry Lee. While serving with the 2nd Marine Div., he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. Its 5 oclock somewhere was one of his favorite quotes.
Fred is survived by his daughter Debbie deZara of Redwood Valley, sister Iona deZara Sweetland of Redwood Valley and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by Shirley deZara, Verne deZara and Barney deZara
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 13, 2010 at The Eversole Mortuary beginning at 3 pm with the Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors. A reception will follow at the home of Chris and Katie Gordon, 1383 Berkeley Way. For more information, contact Katie at 489-4431.
