It is with sadness, but also great pride and gratitude that the Howard family announces the passing of our father, Don M. Howard. We are grateful to have had a father who was so highly regarded by his friends and family. We are proud of his legacy of hard work and honesty. He has left the best parts of him in all of us.
Dad was an athlete and an adventurer. He kept abreast of what was happening in the world because he cared about the plight of everyone.
He was courageous and strong. He was practiced in the art of sarcasm and a prince in the realm of charm. As a father, he was dutiful and hard driving. He was stern and committed. He was generous and always came through in the end and we always knew he loved us.
His friend of 60 years wrote: Don was a common man with our shared human flaws, yet a good bit larger than life to those who had the pleasure and honor of knowing him. He was an icon of modesty and integrity, with a healthy lust for life and adventure. His work ethic was legendary only surpassed by the fun he shared with all who knew him as a friend. I am humbled to be asked to share my thoughts; but most of all I am extremely lucky to have shared a small part of Don’s life well-lived with him. Being with him for such a long, treasured time has played a great part in the enrichment of my own life and has magnified his loss.
We will always remember Dad for his warm hospitality and his verve for life. Look for him on the 18th hole of Ukiah Valley golf course. He’ll be there smiling down on you and asking you to fix your divots.
The Celebration of Life will be sometime after the new year.
Please do not send flowers due to allergies .If you would like to make a donation in dad’s memory, take the time to teach a child how to play golf. The Howard Family really appreciates all of the friends and family that have contributed to our father’s happy full life.
