August 28, 1942 August 28, 2014
Leah Faye Dorsey passed away August, 28, 2014, on her 72nd birthday surrounded by her immediate family at St. Helena Hospital in St. Helena, CA. Her death came shortly after a diagnosis of leukemia.
Born August 28, 1942, in Exeter, CA. Her family moved to Roger Mills County, Oklahoma where she was raised on a farm until 1951 when they moved back to California and made their way to Ukiah, CA. Leah graduated the class of 1959 from Ukiah High School. She began her working career with Pacific Bell at age 16. She then worked at Mendocino (Ukiah) State Hospital as a switch board operator. From there, she worked as a Dispatcher for the Mendocino County Sheriffs Office.
In 1980, she married and joined husband Robert Dorsey, Sr. in running their family business. Active in her community, Leah served as Treasure of Mendocino County Republican Women, as well as on the Board of the Ukiah Police Activities League. Leah sponsored many local golf, football, baseball, softball, soccer, and dance teams within the community. She became quite a fan of watching soccer and watched almost every game of the most recent world cup. Leah loved to dance and listen to country music. She loved to decorate for family celebrations and we could always count on her to add that extra sparkle or touch that was missing. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren more than life itself.
Leah was preceded in death by her parents O.E. and Ella McGee, son Archie Dorsey, and husband Robert Dorsey, Sr. She was survived by daughters Tonya and husband Paul Mounts, Melissa and husband Carmine, brothers Kenneth McGee, Clayton and Janet McGee, grandchildren Michael and Rachel Ingwell, Krista Ingwell and Matt Moses, Jillian and Dustin McNab, Sophia and Carlo, step- grandsons Robert and Lanny Mounts, great grandchildren Jenna McNab and Noah Ingwell, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great- great nieces and nephews. Leah also leaves behind an extended family including Robert and Pamala Dorsey, Jr., George and Carole Bernheim, and Joanie and Kirk Schmidt.
Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
