Jimmie (Jim) Draper
Jimmie Draper passed away suddenly Monday, July 31st at Ukiah Valley Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Jimmie was born in Texas to Virgil and Beatrice Draper in a small town in Texas on April 18, 1933. At the age of seven the family moved to Salinas, California, and then on to Oregon. At the age of 18 Jimmie moved to Fortuna, California. Jimmie met and married the love of his life Joan Wood in Fortuna. Jim and Joan were married for 56 years when Joan passed away in 2011, leaving Jim very broken hearted. Their love was a joy and inspiration to all that knew them. Jim and Joan were blessed with three children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Jimmie worked in the timber industry for 15 years before joining what was then called C.D.F. (Cal-Fire). Jimmie moved his family to Livermore, Ca. and worked in Sunol, Ca. for six years. Jimmie then went to work in Fort Bragg, Ca. at the Parlin Forks station. This brought the family to Ukiah, Ca. After working for the forestry for 35 years Jimmie retired. Jim and Joan had a wonderful retirement spending time with family, traveling, fishing, camping with the "wagon train" and entering and enjoying car shows. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he will be truly missed by all.
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, August 6th at 1:00 P.M. at Eversole Morturary in Ukiah. Following the service, family and friends are invited to the family home on Tomki Road for a celebration of Jim's wonderful life.
