Richard L. Drury M.D.
Memorial services will be held for Richard L. Drury, M.D. on Saturday, January 7, 2012, 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah. Dick passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012.
Born on March 23rd, 1936 in Waterloo, Iowa, he was raised in Ohio and Iowa.
He attended Wesleyan University and on to Northwestern University Medical School.
After receiving his Medical Degree he practiced Internal Medicine in Clinton, Iowa.
He and his family then moved to California where Dick was head of Geriatric Medicine at the Mendocino State Hospital. He went on to complete a fellowship in psychiatry at Mendocino State Hospital and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
When the State Hospital closed in 1971 he became Chief Psychiatrist for the County of Mendocino.
Dick also practiced as a Forensic Psychiatrist and Served on the States Therapeutic Review Board at Napa State Hospital. He retired in 1996.
He enjoyed his retirement golfing, playing bridge, singing with the Barber Shoppe Chorus and in several quartets. He spent many years singing in the Church Choir and then went on to sing in various venues in the community.
After the passing of his wife Sara he later married Myra Drury and they spent 23 years together.
His pride and joy are and always will be his Sons, Michael Drury, M.D. in Arizona, Mark Drury, Computer programmer in Mountain View and John Drury, Captain for Southwest Airlines.
He has eleven of the most beautiful and brightest grandchildren ever born and has tried to spend a lot of time with them.
Dick is survived by his wife, Myra, Sons, and mother.
He was preceded in death by his father, wife Sara and Brother Anthony.
Memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Ukiah are preferred.
