Emma L. Eldridge
Emma Eldridge passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Ukiah home on
November 23, 2014 at the age of 79. She was born in Piacenza, Italy on
September 11,1935. Her widowed mother struggled to raise Emma and her three
siblings during WWII.
In 1961 fate brought her together with Jim (Larry) Eldridge who was
stationed in the U.S. Army in Emma's home town Ravenna, Italy. They were
married by the mayor of Ravenna in1963 in the town piazza and shortly after
moved to California. They resided briefly in San Jose and Santa Rosa before
finally settling in Ukiah in 1967.
Emma worked in several women's retail clothing stores, notably Esther's
Dress Shop. She valued the life long friendships she made while working and
volunteering in the community. She was a strong supporter of the Ukiah
Community Concert program and frequently volunteered in the membership
drives. She was also proud to share her Italian cooking with friends, often
teaching them her native language as well. One of her favorite hobbies was
Cross Stitch and her artistic creations can be found in many homes of family
and friends.
She was predeceased by her sister Carmen and brother Mario of Ravenna Italy.
She is survived by her husband Jim (Larry), her daughter and son in law
Lisa and Tony Dellamarna of Manhattan Beach CA, her son Mark of Harbor City
CA, her brother Tonino of Ravenna, and various nieces and nephews in Italy.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service located at Eversole
Mortuary 141 Low Gap Rd. In Ukiah on Saturday November 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers a donation to Ukiah Valley Medical
Center - ER Expansion Project in Emma's name or to a charity of your choice.
