Francis Marie Byers passed away on September 2, 2024, due to complications of abdominal cancer. She was 80 years old.
Francis, also known as Judy for her entire life, was born on June 20, 1944, in Newport, Oregon to Patricia and George Moody.
She met Ronald Byers, Jr. as a teenager and they moved to Mendocino County to start their lives together. She gave birth to four children during the 1960’s, Ronald III (Randy), Robert (Bo), Romona, and Matthew. She lived her entire adult life in Calpella.
She always did what she could to provide for her children and their children, with Romona and her Grandson, Eddie, living with her at the time of her death.
She will be remembered as the bird lady of Calpella, raising many types of birds, such as Canaries, Parakeets, Cockatiels, and Diamond Doves, throughout her life. She always had dogs and cats on her land as pets, caretakers and pest control. She cared for them all deeply.
She is also known for her outrageous hair style and colorful outfits that stood out from the crowds when shopping in Ukiah.
She is survived by her brothers Richard and Robert, all four children, eight grandchildren, Scott, Elizabeth, John, Amanda, Christopher, Eddie, Brett, and Lucas. She has numerous great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
There will be no burial services, but a celebration of her life will be held on September 29 at the Lions Club Park at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the family (https://gofund.me/657d8274) to assist in costs associated with her death and their continued recovery from the Hopkins fire.
