Jerry was born in Twin Falls Idaho, 2/07/1939, grew up on his parent’s farm, attended Twin Falls High School class of 1957. In 1961 he earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, where he met Daphne. After graduation he entered Officer Candidate School and became a Naval officer, serving his country as a Lieutenant aboard aircraft carrier, the USS Hancock then as a recruiter in the Seattle area.

On December 21, 1963, Jerry married Daphne Rawles at the First Baptist Church of Ukiah. Jerry was stationed in Alameda and then Seattle, where their daughter Angela was born in 1965. In 1966 his Naval career ended, and his young family moved to Portland, Oregon, where Gregory was born in 1968.

By 1971 the family moved to Ukiah where Jerry joined his father-in-law, Jess Rawles in business operating the Redwood Tree Service Stations, Inc. As a business owner he was devoted to the community, active with United Way, a board member of the Mendocino Transit Authority and a Rotarian, serving as Rotary president in 1990-91.

Jerry was an athlete, fisherman and committed family man. He loved to fish for local salmon on the rivers of Mendocino County in addition to Oregon, and Alaska. He played minor league baseball, in college and in Ukiah he was active on multiple men’s softball teams and local bowling leagues. Jerry coached baseball for youth sports and played pick-up basketball for many years at Pomolita. In his later years, he took up golf. He could be found on the Ukiah golf course most days enjoying the game and his friends.
