Robert “Dale” Hawley
Robert “Dale” Hawley passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010. Born October 20, 1954 in Loma Linda, California, Dale grew up in Huntington Beach. He graduated from the Huntington Beach Police Academy and received an Associate Degree in Police Science. Dale was proud to be employed as a code enforcement officer for Sonoma County and previously in Mendocino County for 20 years. In the past, Dale was a police officer and an MP in the Army. He has been a resident of Mendocino County for 26 years.
He married Karen Lynn Hawley on April 12, 2009 in Kauai, Hawaii. Dale said that was the best day of his life. He was proud of his daughter Christine Hawley for all that she has done and for the sweet person that she is. He was so proud to be in love and to finally have found happiness. Dale loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren on his boat. He loved to ride his Harley. He would not admit it easily, but he loved to shop, especially for his wife, daughter and step-daughter. Jewelry was his specialty. He enjoyed collecting things such as coins, shot glasses and knives. He will be remembered for his hugs, which were the best in the world. His was a gentle, kind, caring nature. We were always so lucky to have Dale in our lives. Dale was an amazing researcher and we could always count on him to find anything we were interested in learning and research it to pieces. He loved to learn new things.
Dale is survived by his loving wife Karen Lynn Hawley, daughter Christine Hawley, step-daughter Sarah Portnoff her husband Jon Portnoff and their children Blake, Blair and Brayden Leslie, which he considered his grandchildren, step-son Danny Brown, sisters Linda Yoder and her husband Wes, Robin Hawley Counts, Rachelle Hawley Henry, Rauline Hawley McCoy, brothers Johnny Lester and his wife Darlene, Ross Daniel Hawley, aunt Carol Anderson and many cousins that loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his son Daniel Hawley, father Robert Dale Hawley and mother Patricia Murphy Larson.
We would like to invite people to come to a pot luck to celebrate Dale’s life on Monday, May 31, 2010 for 2:00 to 4:00 at 594 Nokomis Drive in Ukiah. Please bring your favorite dish.
