Marguerite (Marge) E. Hetzel


Marguerite went home to be with our Lord on January 4, 2011, just 5 months short of her 100th birthday. She was born in Hopland on May 29, 1911 to Van and Edna (Dooley) Harpe, both from early pioneering families in the Hopland area. She lived in Hopland and Ukiah all of her life, except for a few months at business college in Oakland. She married Charles Hetzel in 1932 and they were married for nearly 62 years before his death in 1993. They had two daughters; Patricia and her husband, Ron, live in Abilene. TX and Marlene and her husband, Dick, live in Concord, CA. Besides her daughters and sons-in-law, Marge is survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, a brother, Ernest Harpe and his wife Eleanor, a sister, Sarah Howell, two sisters-in-law, Myrl Harpe and Virginia Harpe and numerous nieces and nephews. Marge worked at the DMV in Ukiah for over 20 years. She has always been active in her church; in Ukiah at Calvary Baptist Church. The times she loved most were when all of the family got together to make homemade ice cream, go on a wiener roast, sing songs around the piano, or just reminisce about family events. Services for Marge will be at Eversole Mortuary on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 1 pm.
