Obituary:
Harold Hulbert
A Celebration of Life will be held for Harold E. Hulbert of Boonville, California, on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 12:00 pm at the Fairgrounds Apple Hall in Boonville. Harold passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the age of 67, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Harold was born on November 17, 1944 to Clarence and Ruby Hulbert of Philo, California. Harold grew up on the family ranch and graduated from Anderson Valley High School in 1962, then attended college for two years in San Jose. Harold met the love of his life, Shirley Abbott in June 1964, and they married on January 10, 1965. They welcomed their first daughter, Melanie, on February 10, 1968; their second daughter, Melody, on September 6, 1971; and their third daughter, Shelley, on August 4, 1973. Shelleys arrival is never to be forgotten as it ruined opening day of hunting season. Harolds wife and daughters were the light of his life and nothing was held more dear to his heart.
Harold was a Jack-of-All trades. In his lifetime he was a rancher, carpenter, gas station owner, driller, logger, fisherman, police officer, construction worker and storage unit owner. Harold retired on August 4, 2004, the day he opened Stow-It mini storage. His favorite and most gratifying jobs were as husband, father and grandfather.
Harold was a mountain of a man with a grizzly bear of a voice and a heart the size of a mountain. He didnt know a stranger and was the Social Butterfly of the family. Harold was an avid hunter, abalone diver, crabber and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and played as hard as he worked every day.
In his retirement, Harold spent his days upon Papas Pride II, the 5th love of his life. Harold was never more happy than going fishing on his boat with family and friends. In his final weeks, Harold was able to take his son-in-laws and youngest two grandsons on a final salmon fishing trip. Tears were brought to Harolds eyes as they caught five salmon that day. A final salmon BBQ was enjoyed by the family that same evening.
Harolds contributions to the community; love of life; love for his family and friends; and larger than life voice will be so dearly missed. Harold was loved and cherished by so many, and never will be forgotten.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 47 ½ years, Shirley Hulbert; his daughters Melanie Ann Pardini (Tony Pardini) of Philo, CA; Melody Faye Perez of Boonville, CA; and Shelley Lynn Acton (Eric Acton) of Gillette, WY; his ten grandchildren, Steven, Reba, Shanon, Garrett, Andrea, Kattie, Trevor, Miguel, Tony Jr., and Suzanna; and one great grandchild, Ivette.
Condolences can be sent in the family name to P.O. Box 521 Boonville, CA 95415. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Harolds name to the Anderson Valley Youth Football, P.O. Box 712 Boonville, CA 95415.
