Obituary:
Barry James Inman, loving son, brother, husband, father and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 4th, 2011; he was 47 years old. He was born on July 7th, 1963 in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Bonnie and Jim (AKA Jessie and James) Inman. He has been a resident of Ukiah since the age of 5. As a child, he was baptized in the Catholic Church and attended St. Marys of the Angels.
During his youth, he participated in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Little League. At the age of 14, his participation as a Ukiah Police Cadet in 1978 started his law enforcement career. He graduated from Ukiah High School in 1981. He served as a Special Agent for CAMP (Campaign Against Marijuana Planting) for a couple years. He followed his dream with continued education at Mendocino College, becoming a reserve police officer and dispatcher. He graduated from College of the Redwoods Police Academy in 1984.
Barry enlisted in the United States Army in March 1987. After Basic Training in Fort Benning, GA, he completed his MOS in the Bradley Fighting Vehicle Course on June 25th, 1987. Pvt. Inman returned home to marry his fiancée, Diana, two days later. After a short honeymoon, he was deployed to his permanent duty station, A Company 1st of the 15th Battalion Infantry Division, Harvey Barracks, Kitzingen, West Germany. Pvt. Inman also participated in the NATO-sponsored exercise, Return of Forces to Germany 1988. He was honorably discharged in March 1989.
He began his employment as a police officer for the City of Ukiah in June 1990. Barry was one of the first officers assigned a K9 Unit named Asko. He received an Officer of the Year award in 1992 from the City of Ukiah in Recognition of Outstanding Service. He received many commendations throughout his career. He retired in August 2006.
As an adult, he continued to enjoy baseball as well as water sports, fishing, camping, hunting and landscaping. He was always active and loved being outdoors. Throughout his life, he shared his love for canines; Asko and Mickey were his favorite companions. Barry recently graduated from The National Association of Heavy Equipment Training and has a certificate designation as a Hydraulic Excavator Operator.
Barry is survived by his wife, Diana Keplinger Inman and his three children: Amanda, 21, Christopher, 18, and Jonathan, 16, of Ukiah. He is also survived by his four sisters: Sue and Norm Goehring of LaMoure, ND, Beverly and Eddie Dunn and Sara Lee and Terry Freier, all of Fargo, ND, and Mikelyn and Jon Kishpaugh of Eureka, CA; and his brother, Bruce and Sarah Inman, of Sacramento, CA. in addition, Barry leaves his Aunt Marlene Inman, Uncle Ray and Jo Inman of Ukiah, Uncle Vernon and Judy Inman of Red Bluff, CA and cousins David, Susan and Mike Gilpatrick and their children Mike Jr. and Danae and her husband Scott; Doug and Kim Inman and their sons Wesley and Mitchell; Uncle Cliff and Luella Inman and son Danny of Utah. He also will be greatly missed by his cousins Julie Butler (Inman), Rhonda and her husband John Landahl and their children Lianna and Eliza of Folsom, CA, and Sue Trostle and her husband Rob of Yucaipa, CA. His nieces are Debra (Doug), Barbara (Dan), Lisa (Ray), Michelle (Brian) and Madeline; nephews David (Char), Danny (Pauline), Lance, and Matthew; great nephews Dylan, Conner, Grayson, Job, great nieces Angela (Dan), Amber (Ryan), Brianna, Taylor, Aubrey and Mara, and great-great-niece Isabell and great-great-nephews Evan and Owen.
Barry will also be missed by his father-in-law Fred Keplinger and his wife Karen Paoli-Keplinger; brother-in-law Freddy Keplinger and his wife Alana, his nieces Lani, Rhyen and Lily; his sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Betsy) Keplinger, Michelle Keplinger, mother-in-law Kathy Keplinger, Karin Ronk and her husband Ken and son Clayton; his other brother-in-law Patrick Keplinger and his wife Kristen, his niece and nephews Madison, Kaden and Quintin.
There will be an opportunity to pay your respects on Tuesday, July 12th, 2011, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Eversole Mortuary. Services will be held at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church on Friday, July 15th, 2011 at 11 a.m. followed by a Military Service burial at the Russian River Cemetery and a potluck reception at the Todd Grove Clubhouse immediately following. There are many stories to be told and shared about Officer Barry Inman, 4B12. He will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, the love of his law enforcement years, and the dedication to the community he served.
