Obituary:
June Arlene Jacobs passed away peacefully on April 21st just short of her 90th birthday. June was born May 16, 1930 in Nebraska to Arthur and E. Lucille (Meyer) Hunter. In the depths of the Great Depression, Art and Lucille moved their family to California. They settled in Potter Valley where June grew up surrounded by grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins.
When June started high school she met a new student, Ronald Jake Jacobs. From all accounts June and Jake were a true romance. They married in July 1950. In 1956, with two little girls, Rhonda and Laurene, they relocated to Ukiah. Sadly, a third little girl, Marla, did not survive infancy.
June, was outgoing and vibrant and did not limit herself to home making. She went back to work as a bookkeeper when her girls entered school. Starting at Ukiah General Hospital as a part-time admission clerk, June retired as the manager of Payroll and Human Resources .
June grew up in very economically difficult times. She and Jake prospered because they were frugal and careful with their resources. As soon as the opportunity arose June was planning family vacations to Disneyland, Yellowstone, Yosemite and British Columbia, as she really enjoyed seeing new and interesting places. Rhonda and Laurene learned to garden, preserve food, sew and save for their future from their mom and dad.
While working and raising a family, June joined the Rebekah Assembly, the female auxiliary of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. She was a member for over 50 years and served in many positions including Noble Grand of the Ukiah lodge and Outer/Inner Guardian of the California State Assembly. Junes lodge activities gave June and Jake many years of friendships and travel. After Jakes untimely death in 2000 June continued to be active in the Rebekahs and filled the next 20 years with travel with family and friends from Vermont, UK, Italy, to the Caribbean.
Rhonda and Laurene are grateful to Aunt Joyce for all her kindness and efforts on our mothers behalf.
June is survived by daughters Rhonda and Laurene & Steve, granddaughter Denise & Jimmie, grandson Nathan & Colleen, grandson Benjamin & Brittany, sister-in-law Joyce, nieces Tayna, Laurie, Nila and Susan, nephews Mark, Patrick and Geoffrey, cousins Louise, Elaine, Ralph, Dean and Donny. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jake, parents Art and Lucille, brothers William, James and Ronald and sister April.
