James Vance Dayton Sr.

James (Jim) Vance Dayton Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away in Ukiah, CA. on February 22, 2024. Jim was born on March 12, 1938, in South Gate, CA. He was a man who dedicated his life to his family and often said his goal in life was to make the love of his life, Brenda, happy, which he did.

Jim graduated from South Gate High School and went on to have a successful career at Canteen Corporation in Southern California from 1958 to 1979.  He then took over a portion of his brother's franchise and became the proud owner of Canteen Vending Service of Ukiah from 1979 until the present day.

Remembered for his strong values, honesty, and kind heart, Jim lived his life by the Golden Rule. His love of family was evident in everything he did. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and creating lasting memories.

Jim was a past member of the South Ukiah Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics.   His favorite hobbies were playing games on his tablet and playing slot machines at the casino.  He will forever be remembered for loving Hallmark movies, watching grandkids’ sporting events, and kisses on the forehead.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Brenda Joyce Dayton, whom he married on October 18, 1958. He is also survived by his daughters Kim Dayton (Tracey), Kari Revheim (Glenn), Shari Schapmire (Todd), and son Jimmy Dayton Jr. (Marie);  grandchildren Erik Revheim (Janet), Todd Schapmire Jr. (Noel), Ryan Revheim (Hailey), Tyler Schapmire (Lindsay), Davis Dayton (Niki), Kelsey Dayton (Zeke), Bailee Dayton-Herrera (Peter), Kylie Dayton (Michael), Kamerin Dayton, Keegan Leighty, Dawson Dayton; as well as great-grandchildren Vance, Gianna, Veronika, Abe, Jack, Nora, Kyler, Valerie, Mila, and James. Jim is also survived by his brother Billy Jack Dayton, sister-in-law Robbie Dayton, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Maureen & Tommy Cryder, and close family friend Gary Stroud.  He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents Warder and Ruby Dayton, brother Wallace Dayton, sister-in-law June Dayton, and close family friend Pat Stroud.

Jim will be extremely missed; his legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have him touch their lives.

On behalf of the Dayton Family, a special thank you to Dr. Hengbing Wang and his staff for providing excellent long-term care; as well as to the staff at Ukiah Valley Adventist Health, particularly the ICU Team, for their kindness and loving care shown to the entire family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, James Vance Dayton Sr., your memory will forever be cherished by your family and friends.  At Jim's request, there will be no service.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Ukiah Boys and Girls Club or charity of your choice.
