Janis Adrien Preston

Janis Adrien Preston was born September 27, 1938, in San Francisco Ca to Archie Reid and Harriet Contryman. She would prove to be a woman of vibrant energy and many talents. Young, beautiful, and athletic she graduated from Mills College in 1960 with a degree in business administration. 

At 22 she fell in love with the handsome and charming Hugh Preston, and they had two sons Brett and Barry. She was a faithful wife, a great cook, and a devoted mother. Family always came first. It later grew with the addition of 2 stepdaughters Glenda and Jill. Janis welcomed them as her own. 

The family enjoyed her home cooked meals, often with vegetables from her garden. How she found time for ballet lessons, golf, and where she learned to play the piano, nobody knows. In midlife she successfully battled breast cancer and ran half marathons. 

After her kids moved on, she poured much of her energy into her tax career and the town benefited. It was hard to find her during tax season, but she always seemed to be there to answer our difficult tax questions. She loved her clients, and they loved her. 

She enjoyed going to the Ukiah Symphony, First Friday's, music and chardonnay at local wineries, and traveling with her girlfriends to places like Australia, Italy, and New Zealand. She had boundless energy, an engaging smile, and loved people. She could be embarrassingly loud cheering for her favorite teams and players which included Cal, her sons, Aaron Rodgers, and Jared Goff. She loved blowouts! She is survived by her two sons Brett and Barry (Mie); her 4 stepdaughters Sara (Bob) Morris, Lori (Daryl) Nauman, Glenda (Mike) Preston, and Jill Preston; her stepbrother Tim Cuneo, and her 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren that she adored.

There will be a celebration of life for her Friday, May 2 from 1 pm to 4 pm at Barra of Mendocino Winery.
