Obituary:
Charles Wilbur Jensen, born May 5, 1937, passed away on June 26, at the age of 74. Charlie lived a long and full life, enjoying his retirement years by continuing his life-long hobbies of fishing, collecting precious treasures, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Charlie will be remembered for his loyalty and devotion to his family (and if you knew Charlie -- you were family), his gift for storytelling, and his tendency to be ornery, stubborn, and loveable all at the same time.
Charlie, retired in 2004, was a truck driver for Rinehart Oil for 35 years. Charlie was a mans man through and through, and will be remembered for his life-long love of fishing and camping, his weekend wood-cutting excursions, his love of old country western movies and national geographic magazines, his woodworking craftsmanship, his sense of humor, his ability to tell a good joke, his rocket-fuel coffee, his ever present sweet tooth, and his sparkling blue eyes.
Although Charlie was a man of few words, his generosity of spirit was shown through his actions and deeds to those near and dear to him.
An avid outdoorsman, Charlie could be found most days tinkering in his backyard shed fondly recalling every adventure contributing to his life-long collection of tools and treasures. If the saying one mans junk, is another mans treasure, rings true, then Charlie will fondly be remembered as the richest of men.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife Neva, his three children, Laura Jensen of Santa Rosa; Kristi Furman and husband Troy of Ukiah; and Joel Jensen and fiancée Terri Silacci of Monterey; his grandchildren Brad and Brett Furman, Michael and Kyle Neilson, and Olivia and Jackson Silacci-Jensen. Charlie also leaves his sister and brother-in-law Ginger and Bob Hiatt of Portland, OR; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Pat Jensen of Smith River, CA; sister and brother-in-law Patty and Jimmy Lee of Weimar, CA; sister-in-law Mara Lynn and partner Jo of Redding, CA; brother-in-law Henry Lee and wife Deb of Blue Lake, CA; 22 nieces and nephews, 29 grand-nieces and nephews, and countless honorary loved ones. Charlie is predeceased by his mother and father, Nyta and Jack Jensen, and his beloved dog Bugsy.
To know him was to love him, he will forever have a special place in our hearts.
All who knew Charlie are invited to a celebration of life service on Friday, July 1, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds, Fine Arts Building. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlies memory can be made to the Ukiah Rod and Gun Club, P.O. Box 1309, Ukiah, California, 95482.
