William T. Johnson
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, William T. Johnson, passed away on November 6, 2012. He was a proud husband to his wife, Susie for 42 years, a wonderful father to his sons, Stephen and Peter, a great father-in-law to Mercy and Adriana, and a loving grandfather to his newest joys, Gwendolyn, Luke and Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Bill, his brother, Ken, and his sister, Julie. He is survived by his sisters, Margaret and Mary, and his brothers, Bert and Frank, numerous other relatives, and countless friends.
Bill was born and raised in Ukiah. He attended grammar school at the Albertinum and St. Marys School, and graduated from Ukiah High School in 1965. He attended Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Design from Cal Poly Pomona.
Bill took great interest in his work and family, and was proud to be a fourth generation farmer in Ukiah that raised pears and grapes. In 1990, Bill and his brother Frank built a packing house to process their pears, and have since sold them throughout North America under the Eagle Peak label. He felt lucky to farm with his sons, and was happy to have his family continue with the farming way of life.
Bill was a member of Mendocino County Farm Bureau for 44 years, a director for 30 years, and President for two years. He was in the California Ag Leadership Program for two years and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Russia, Germany and Poland with his class. Bill served as a director for both the Mendocino County Resource Conservation Board and California Pear Association for 17 years, and he belonged to the Knights of Columbus for 41 years.
Bill enjoyed backpacking, hunting, fishing, barbequing, and watching the San Francisco Giants. He loved his family very much, and will be deeply missed.
A Rosary will be held for Bill on Monday, November 12th at 6:30 p.m., at Eversole Mortuary, and a Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday, November 13th at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Ukiah and St. Mary's Foundation.
