David Joseph Johnston passed away surrounded by family on April 8th, 2011, following a stroke. Dave was born on Christmas Day, December 25th, 1931 in Youngstown Ohio. A Korean War veteran who served in the United States Navy, he spent the last 45 years in Ukiah. He met his wife of nearly 49 years, Betty Ann Tollini, in Moss Landing where he was Captain of a party fishing boat and she worked in a restaurant. After moving to Ukiah, Dave worked at Masonite until he retired in 1997. Dave is survived by his wife, Betty; children David (Grace) of Ukiah; and Michelle (Scott) of Sacramento; brother, Jim Johnston; uncle, Ernie Nearman (Yvonne); father-in-law, Aldo Tollini; brother-in-law, Dave Tollini; and six nieces and nephews. Dave is also survived by grandchildren Jackie Blunt, Alex Blunt (Amanda), Erica Blunt, D. Michael Johnston (US Army), Molly Johnston, Elizabeth Johnston, Ian Johnston and Victoria Johnston, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Dave was a loving husband, beloved father, good friend and a great listener. Despite facing challenges related to Parkinson's disease, Dave maintained his sense of humor and quick wit. At Dave's request, there will not be any services. After a lifetime love of the sea, Dave's ashes will be spread in warm ocean waters. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation http://pdf.org or Oceana North America http://oceana.org.
Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
