Obituary:
Clayton Clay Freeman Jones was born in Pittsburg, California on September 27, 1951, and was too suddenly from us, by cancer, on February 25, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Jean Jones. Clay is survived by his brother, Martin Jones, of Redwood Valley, his sister, Kim Berry, of Ukiah, his daughters, Ginger Allen, and J.J. Jones, of Redwood Valley, his grandchildren, Cierra Allen, Cortlin Allen, Caleb Allen, Aiyana Brady and great-grandson, AnthonyRaymond Rowe, and his long-time companion, Margaret Baxman.
Clay and his family moved to the Ukiah area in 1965. He graduated from Ukiah High School and got married at a young age. He worked locally at Remco in Willits, and continued his career working all over California, as well as Alaska. He retired from Granite Construction a few years ago. He was a part of the Operating Engineers Local Union #103. Clay was well known in these parts as an outstanding welder/fabricator. He was a jokester and prankster with his fellow workers and you could always count on him for some excitement.
Clay will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was a unique man who had incredible depths to his personality, to know him was to love him. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and all around outdoorsman. He enjoyed all types of activities, including welding, diving, and collecting and shooting guns. Clays sense of humor was one of a kind and he could always bring a smile to your face. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends. He made annual trips with his friends to hunt and fish, and not a holiday passed that he didnt spend with his family.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, March 3, 2011, from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Services for Clay will be held at Eversole Mortuary on Friday, March 4, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., with graveside services directly following at the Russian River Cemetery. The family invites you to join them for a celebration of Clays life directly following the services.
The family prefers memorial donations in Clays name be made to the American Cancer Society, 1451 Guerneville Rd., Ste. 220, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.
