Kathryn Schapmire, 90, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and inspiration. Born in Mooresburg, Tennessee, to Clifford and Edith Hicks on February 15, 1934, Kathryn spent her formative years in Bloomington, Illinois, where she built a foundation of cherished memories and lasting relationships.
Kathryn married the love of her life, Andy Schapmire, and together they shared nearly 60 beautiful years of devotion, laughter, and partnership until his passing. Their marriage was a shining example of love and commitment, a bond that endured through life’s joys and challenges. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter.
Kathryn was a proud and devoted mother to her children, Andrea and Todd, and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andy; her cherished daughter, Andrea; and her dear sister, Betty Wilson.
Kathryn is survived by her loving son, Todd, and his wife, Shari; as well as her son-in-law, Don Wakefield, with whom she shared a deep connection and mutual respect. She was a loving grandmother to her grandsons, Todd Jr. and Tyler, and their wives, Noel and Lindsay. She was also a doting great-grandmother to Gianna, Abe, Jack, and Nora, who brought her endless joy and pride.
Kathryn was particularly fond of her double cousin, Frankie Hicks, with whom she shared a special and lifelong connection. She was also deeply connected to her in-laws, including Andy’s sister, Betty Cave, and her children Lori, Cathy, Greg, Tammy, and Becky. Kathryn also cherished her sister Betty Wilson’s children, Vicki, Chris, and Brian, who all held a special place in her heart.
Kathryn was deeply connected to her extended family and fondly remembered by the entire Dayton Family, with whom she spent the vast majority of her time over the past four decades. Her family ties were a constant source of love and connection throughout her life.
A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, Kathryn’s love for his music brought her great joy throughout her life. One of her fondest family memories was when her daughter Andrea was kissed by Elvis himself at a concert—a story that became legendary within the family and highlighted Kathryn’s admiration for the King of Rock and Roll.
An avid admirer of Gone with the Wind, Kathryn cherished the beauty of timeless stories and found her own way of sharing them by performing in local plays. Her passion for music and theater lit up the lives of her family and friends, where she was known for her vibrant presence and love of drama.
Kathryn’s ashes will rest next to her beloved Andy, in a place of eternal peace. A celebration of her remarkable life with family will take place in the near future in Bloomington, Illinois.
Kathryn is survived by her loving family, including Todd and his wife, Shari; her son-in-law, Don Wakefield; her grandsons, Todd Jr. and Tyler, and their wives, Noel and Lindsay; her great-grandchildren, Gianna, Abe, Jack, and Nora. She is also survived by her many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends that loved her deeply and will carry her memory in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, Kathryn would want donations made in her name to the Ukiah Player’s Theater or the SPACE Program, both causes close to her heart and reflective of her lifelong love of the arts.
