Atwin L. King
On Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 3:30 a.m. Atwin L. King passed away in Ukiah, California at the age of 74 surrounded by his family.
Atwin was born in the town of Visalia, California on November 25, 1938 at 6:15 a.m. He was the first child and first son of Marjorie Whitley and Ernest King.
Atwin joined USAFI in Madison, Wisconsin and served his military commitment in Panama, Florida in the Air Defense Wing where he married the love of his life, Bonnie King. They were married for 55 years.
Upon fulfillment of his commitment to the military he and Bonnie moved to California where he joined Pacific Gas & Electric in their apprentice program, having a 38 year career before retirement.
Over several decades, Atwin became a world travel fly fisherman. He was a 25 year group leader. He fished the Smith, Chetco and many other rivers throughout California, the Delta, Pacific Ocean Coastline, Costa Rica, Loreto, Baja, Christmas Island just to name a few and all over the world.
He enjoyed a great life, being with his family, engaging in the beautiful art of fly fishing as he became a fly fishing icon.
Atwin and Bonnie one by one this year are now gone. Separated temporarily, they are now intertwined once again and are theirs for eternity.
Atwin is survived by son Alan King, daughters Rhonda Deaton, Cynthia King-Felix, grandchildren Heather King, Nicole Deaton, Seth and Sean Felix and numerous fishermen all around the world.
The family would like to give special thanks to: Joyce Ives and Jamie Lyne of Homecare at Phoenix Certified Hospice of Mendocino County; the nurses at Ukiah Valley Medical Center who helped with his passing: Nancy, Gina, Lucia, Jamie, Bastie, Iani, Beth and any others I may have missed; Dr. Bortz and Dr. Falk; Dr. Hardy and his staff, Angel, Lori and Shirley.
Private graveside services will be held and Atwin will be laid to rest with his wife Bonnie.
