Obituary:
MARIE BARR LANGLEY
With sadness and commemorative affection, we announce the passing of our mother, Marie Barr Langley, 90, on May 4, 2013, in Petaluma, CA. Born and raised in Corvallis, MT, Marie moved to the East Bay during WWII to work and attend UC Berkeley. There, she met her husband of 37 years, Cordes P. Langley. After he graduated from the Univ. of Nevada, Reno, they moved to Ukiah in 1950. Her lifes primary focus was providing a loving home for her family, raising four children, and lending support to her husbands local wholesale lumber operationsRedwood Coast Lumber / Coast Wood Preserving. Cordes passed away in Feb. 2005.
For many years, she was an avid duplicate bridge player and active member of the Ukiah Womens Golf Club. She returned to UC Berkeley, attaining her BA degree in 1981. After graduation, she became the Executive Director of the Mendocino County Board of Realtors from 1984-86.
Politically aware, at one point an activist for womens causes, she remained well-read and current on many social issues. She was a devoted arts enthusiast and sports fan, particularly 49er football and pro golf. Word games were her specialty.
Surviving Marie Langley are her daughter Cathy Langley Elawadly, Ukiah; son Jeff Langley of Petaluma; son Ed J. Langley of Beverly Hills, CA, and Edith Langley of Asheville, NC. Grandchildren include Nihal Elawadly, Ukiah; Nicholas Powers, Jacksonville, FL; William Powers, N. Hollywood, CA; Eric Herbert, Rohnert Park; and great-grandson Maxim Powers. She will be sadly missed by her dearest friend of over 25 years, Dee Dement of Lakeport.
Funeral services will be held at Eversole Mortuary on Monday, May 13th, at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions to Project Sanctuary (P. O. Box 450, Ukiah, CA 95482) are suggested.
