Obituary:
Susan Ellen Lanning, 70, passed unexpectedly on Thursday, April 7, 2011, after a brief illness. She has gone to join her beloved husband, George William Lanning Jr., who passed December 21, 1990. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Brown and son-in-law Fred Brown, and their children Griffin and Quintin Brown of Redwood Valley, CA; son, Thomas Tal Lanning and daughter-in-law Shelly Lanning, and their children Cash and Emily Lanning of Santa Rosa, CA. She was affectionately known as Gr Gr (Gurr Gurr) to her Great Grandson, Aiden Allen Brown. She is also survived by her 4 stepchildren, Michael Lanning of NY, George William Lanning III, Alice Parker, and Mary Bartlett who all reside in Southern CA. She had a total of 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bill Posey of McAllen, TX. She resided in Ukiah for 30 yrs. From 7/02 -10/09 she cared for her Mother. Prayer was always very instrumental in her life. Thy will be done gave her the strength she needed. Prior to caring for her mother, she worked as a distributor with her husband George throughout Northern California, and continued after his passing. She provided local stores with goods from Fort Bragg to Lake County and even as far away as Crescent City. Her memories of the laughter that she and George shared over all those many years and miles together were recounted by her frequently and with much fondness. She always smiled when talk turned to George; he was the love of her life. She will be remembered for prefacing stories with Let me tell you something without going into a lot of detail and of course, there always followed lots and lots of details. She graduated from Texas Womens University with a degree in education, but was most proud of being a wife and mother. During the last 21 years, she loved spending time at Browns Daycare with Rebecca and all of the children there. She will fondly be remembered as Grandma Susan to many children. Susan talked many times of wanting to travel when her time became her own. She soon came to realize; however, that what gave her the most joy besides her family, was spending time gardening in her yard.
Her children will be having a celebration of her life on April 23rd at 2 pm at the home of her daughter, Rebecca Brown. They would be honored to have your presence at the celebration. For additional information call 707-485-2401.
