Obituary:
Maiga Lapkass, 91, of Ukiah for 57 years passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Maiga was born September 21, 1926 in Ape, Latvia.
She had a masters degree in Physical Therapy. Maiga worked as a Physical Therapist until her sons were born and then was a homemaker. She was a loving and supportive mother and wife.
Maiga enjoyed cross-country and downhill skiing, hiking, weaving, cooking, entertaining, reading and appreciated art.
Her family will remember Maiga for being completely selfless and spending her life supporting and caring for her family and others.
Married for 50 years to long time Ukiah physician Dr. Eugene E. Lapkass, until his passing in 2003. She fled form her home country Latvia near the end of WWII to a displaced persons camp in Germany, she then came to the US as an Immigrant in 1951. She met and married Gene in the US, where she attended grad school and raised her family.
Maiga is survived by her sons John Lapkass of Anchorage, Alaska and Andy Lapkass of Breckenridge, Colorado, granddaughter Maja Lapkass of Anchorage, Alaska, sister Guna of New Jersey. Maiga was preceded in death by her father who deceased in Latvia prior to her fleeing, her mother Adele Iesalins lived with the family until passing in 1975 and by her sister Daina and her husband Gene.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 5:00 PM at Barra of Mendocino Redwood Valley tasting room.
Memorial donations in Maigas name may be made to American Latvia Association Museum of the Occupation of Latvia in Riga, Latvia.
