Obituary:
Lila June Romer Lee, born July 12, 1923 in Ukiah, to Arthur and Leila Romer, passed away at home on December 13, 2012.
Lila grew up on the family dairy farm. She enjoyed 4H as a teenager. She left Ukiah for a short time and returned home and married Robert J. Lee and adopted two children, Arthur and Peggy. She worked for Burns Tire Service and numerous other bookkeeping jobs while raising her children. Also during that time she became involved with the building and care of the Held-Poage Library and continued for 35 years, ultimately becoming the Director until 2005. She worked and was instrumental with the transferring of the Sun House to the City of Ukiah per the agreement of Mark & Melissa Carpenter. With no formal training she became a respected authority on local history and was recognized by the California Historical Society with an award for her long service along with being voted “Citizen of the Year” by the Ukiah Chamber of Commerce in 1994. She was involved with Jobs Daughters as a teen and Eastern Star as an adult.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Leila Romer and by her son Arthur Lee. She is survived by her husband Robert Lee, daughter Peggy Fimbres and husband Ralph Jr., sisters Margarett Parducci, Mae Lauer, grandchildren Robert Lee, Allison Lee, Kirstie Fimbres and Anthony Lee. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. followed by a gathering of friends at the Sun House.
Memorial donations can be made to Anderson Valley Museum, Sun House Guild and Hospice of Ukiah.
