Norval MacDonald was born in Medford, Oregon to Orion MacDonald and Edith Anderson in 1913. He was the president of the first graduating class of John Marshall High School in Los Angeles in 1931. He married Elizabeth Ann Clifford in 1937; they were married for 62 years.
Norval had a long and distinguished career as a Safety Engineer for Pacific Indemnity and Industrial Indemnity in San Francisco. During those years he lived in Fairfax, CA in Marin County where he enjoyed his passion for landscape design while raising his family. He was a member of Indian Valley Country Club.
After retiring from Industrial Indemnity, he and Elizabeth moved to Camarillo, California where he continued his work as a Safety Engineer for Beaver Insurance in Oxnard. He worked as an independent consulting Safety Engineer until age 87 and was a member of the Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo where he was the founder of the Flubbers. In addition to his main passion of golfing he enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was a member of the Channel Islands Masonic Lodge of Ventura.
He is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Kathy MacDonald and Michael Nissenberg of Elk, Peggy and Don Lake of Sanger and Linda MacDonald and Bob Comings of Willits. Also, he is survived by grandchildren: Clifford Lake, Jennifer Lake, Zoe Comings, Bowen Comings and Sheri Ferrand and also by great-grandchildren Selina Cupell, Bari Cupell, Michelle Ferrand and Steven Ferrand. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth and his granddaughter Karen Cupell.
In 2007 he moved to Ukiah, California to be near two of his three daughters. He enjoyed his many new friends in Ukiah, living for the past 2 ½ years at Brookside Senior Residence and regularly working out at the Redwood Health Club.
