Madron, Mildred Lee

Mildred Lee Madron - age: 96
(August 15, 1922 to November 22, 2018 )
Resident of Ukiah, California

Obituary:
Mildred Lee Madron, our beloved mom, grandma, and great-grandma, passed away on November 22, 2018, at her Ukiah home.
She was born August 15, 1922, in Bountiful, Utah, to Esther Mabey and Carter Ernest Lee.
Mildred was blessed with a remarkable memory. She often shared events from her long life starting with her quilt-making beginning at five, helping her mother sew for a new baby. When baby Esther arrived, she tended her in the field as her parents, with older brother and sister harvested rows of onions.
After her parents’ deaths, mother at 9, father at 11, she and her siblings were raised by their Aunt Sarah and Uncle Jasper Hepworth, along with their four children, on a truck farm in Bountiful.
In junior high, she began playing the viola and during her senior year at Davis High she played with the Salt Lake City McCune School of Music Symphony.
In 1936, she was bicycle delivering the Mabey Family newspaper when she met her future husband, Joseph Madron, who was working at a root-beer stand for the summer. He played the violin in the Symphony. Four years later they were married and moved to Los Angeles. Joe and Mildred lived in the Highland Park community, operating a busy cabinet shop where their three daughters learned to sweep sawdust and Mildred ran the front office.
In 1961, Mildred began work for the Los Angeles School District as a clerk-typist. She continually sought promotions and when she retired, she was a Prinicipal Accountant for the Los Angeles Community College District.
Mildred was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served many years as the children’s Primary music director and president.
Joe and Mildred moved to Ukiah in 1990. She enjoyed making quilts almost full-time and made hundreds of quilts for family and friends. For years, the senior ladies from church would gather weekly at her home for quilting and lunch.
Mildred was preceded in death by those quilting friends, her siblings, Esther, Ruth, and Robert, all the cousins of her generation, and her husband, Joe.
She is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann (Pat) Henrie (Ukiah), Elizabeth (Lynn) Anderson (Los Angeles), and Mary Stanley (Los Angeles); 11 grandchildren, Amanda Grace (Sebastopol), Jeni Henrie (Chico), Jill Millward (Boise, ID), Sara Bogner (Ukiah), Marie Anderson (Williamsburg, VA), Kjerstin Thweatt (Rathdrum, ID), Lisa Anderson (Los Angeles), Heidi Flores (Santa Cruz), Amy Burgoyne (Scotts Valley), John Stanley (San Gabriel), Tom Stanley (Ontario); and 24 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Inise Naicegucegu, Mildred’s caregiver for the past two years.
Viewing will be Saturday, December 1, 5 to 6 p.m. at Eversole Mortuary, with services Monday, December 3, 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1337 South Dora Street, Ukiah. Internment following in the Veterans Section of the Russian River Cemetery.
