Obituary:
John Langdon March, born October 15th 1922 passed away November 14th 2012 on his ranch in Potter Valley. John was born and raised in Potter Valley and graduated from Potter Valley High School where he was active in 4H from youth to leadership roles. After high school, John attended UC Davis until 1941. In 1942, he joined the US Navy where he served as a 2nd class Aviation Radioman with a fighter squadron aboard the USS Intrepid surviving several Kamikaze attacks. After WWII, he attended Cal Poly and graduated with a degree and received the George Drumm Award of for Outstanding Senior in Dairy Husbandry. He then returned to Potter Valley to work on the family farm where he ran the dairy and farmed pears and grapes and was an active member of the Mendocino County Farm Bureau and the potter Valley Methodist Church.
John married his wife of 62 years, Nancy Day also from a long time Potter Valley family. In his later years, he was a proud gardener and had a love of growing peaches, tomatoes and watermelons. John is preceded in death by his sister Edna Allen and son John March. John is survived by his wife Nancy, sister Elizabeth Edsall of Auburn, Helen Franzone of Las Vegas, Mary Loeser of Pine Cove, son Charles of Lakeport, grandson John of Potter Valley and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be held at the Potter Valley Methodist Church at noon on Monday, November 19th 2012.
The family prefers memorial donations in John’s name to the Potter Valley Methodist Church or the Held-Poage Research Library.
