Obituary:
David Roy Meyer of Ukiah, CA, passed away gently and bravely at home on December 2, 2010, after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by the love and presence of his family, and filled with the peace of God.
Born in Lincoln, NE, July 23, 1946, to Neal and Mary Meyer, David grew up in Tempe, AZ, and graduated from U.C. Davis. A true patriot, he served honorably in the U.S. Army as a chaplains assistant.
David married the love of his life, Barbara (Norbie), June 16, 1979, in Monterey, CA. For 34 years he faithfully taught his beloved students in Willits and Laytonville. He deeply loved and was incredibly proud of his twin children, Christy and Daniel.
David was known as a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He first put his faith in Jesus as a 19-year-old man and from then on his life was committed to growing as a disciple of the Lord. His pursuit of God was reflected in his love for the Lord, and in his devotion to his wife and children. He was a man of prayer and he loved studying the Bible, having memorized hundreds of scripture verses. He served the Lord through teaching Sunday school and Bible study classes. He had a special love of teaching college students how to walk with Christ. David also had a heart for widows and orphans and joyfully sponsored nine Compassion International children. He would want his family and friends to know that he echoed the Apostle Paul: To me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Preceded in death by his parents, David is survived by his wife Barbara of Ukiah, his children: Christy Meyer of New York City, and Daniel and Annie (Sunukjian) Meyer of Mountain View, CA, and by his brother Scott Meyer of Santa Rosa, CA.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11, at 2 PM at New Life Community Church, Ukiah. A private military internment will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. Arrangement is under the care of Eversole Mortuary.
The family requests memorial contributions to be directed to Compassion International.
