(December 03, 1942 to March 04, 2014 )
Resident of Ukiah, California

Obituary:
George Mougianis was born December 3, 1942 in the bucolic village of Panagia, situated on the Aegean Island of Ikaria, near the mainland of Greece. George lived 71 incredible years and entered into rest on March 4, 2014. George was the beloved husband of Despina and adored father of Argyroula (Argie) Mougianis, darling brother to Despina Kondylas and Andonis Plutis, dear son-in-law to Joanne Petsakos, wonderful brother-in-law to Yiannis Kondylas, Argyro and Spiro Vlachos, Georgia and Zack Leventis, Maria and Paul Katinos, Stella and Haralampos (Bob) Bratsis; cherished Theio (Uncle) to Demetris, Fillipas, Yoanna, Zoe and Lemonia Kondylas, Argyro, Maria, Despina and Xenophone Moraitis, John Leventis, Joanna, Benny, Adriana and Benjamin Noonan, Stellios Leventis, Anthoula, Yiannoula, and Stephania Vlachos, Pandelis Bratsis and Xristos Plutis.
In 1971, George traveled to America to see what the land of opportunity had to offer. He settled in Baltimore, Maryland, where he became an industrial painter and attended English classes at night. After years of painting he started working for General Motors. While at GM he started studying to become a U.S. citizen. In 1978, his dreams came true when he passed the citizenship test and became a proud United States of America citizen.
While vacationing in Greece, George met a brown-eyed beauty who happened to live in California. She invited him to visit for Christmas and he proposed a couple days later. He used his construction skills that he had learned in Greece to build his family a home in Ukiah.
In 2006, George received a lung transplant and he knew it was his second chance at life. He walked anywhere that he could, went to school to learn Spanish and French, traveled every chance that he got and spent countless hours perfecting his garden.
George was a member of St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Pan-Ikarian Brotherhood and Masonic Lodge. Those service organizations appreciated his gifts of dedication with heartfelt honors.
George’s deep spirituality, powerful guidance, and unconditional love were his hallmark characteristics.
Should friends desire, (in lieu of flowers) memorials may be sent to the St Jude’s Children’s hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Eversole Mortuary at 11:00 AM, burial will follow at the Ukiah Cemetery.
