Obituary:
Dana Lee (DuBose) Murray passed away peacefully in her home on February 25, 2010. She was surrounded by her family. Dana waged a valiant four year battle against cancer. Her spirit,
grace, and sense of humor continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her.
Dana possessed not only physical beauty but an amazing inner, spiritual beauty as well. She was a passionate person who embraced the joy and wonder of life.
Born on September 6, 1953 in Carthage, Texas, Dana lived most of her life in Ukiah, California. She attended Nokomis, Pomolita, and Ukiah High schools. She followed in her mother's footsteps and became a teacher, having graduated with honors from Sonoma State. Dana taught at Pomolita, Redwood Valley, Yokayo, and Nokomis schools. She will always be remembered as one of the most loved and cherished teachers in the school district. She had a gift for instilling confidence in her students and was always able to find a special gift or talent in every child.
Dana's athleticism played an important role throughout her life. In college she played tennis and softball. She was a dive master and underwater photographer, snow and water skier, roller and ice skater, dancer, and horsewoman. Having loved horses since childhood, Dana was able to realize her dream to ride and have her own horse. In 2002, she began taking riding lessons and became a beautiful dressage rider. She and her beloved horse, Alley, developed into a team to be admired.
At the age of 15, Dana became one of the youngest Honored Queens of Jobs Daughters.
Dana was a special, unique person whose positive energy drew people to her. She will be missed by
so many. She was taken too soon, but those who love her believe that God must need her for a higher purpose.
Dana is survived by her husband, Alex Murray, mother, Wanda DuBose, father, Dan DuBose, stepson, Reid Murray, step daughter, Chelsea Nash, sisters Ilana Seaton and Nena Gupton (Ron Gupton), sister-in-law Lauren Giacomini (Mike Giacomini), brothers-in law Gene Murray (Adriana Murray) and Gary Murray. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 6, at 1:00 p.m., at Mendocino Hill Events Center, 9801 Old River Road, Hopland, CA. In lieu of flowers a scholarship fund in memory of Dana Murray is being established at Mendo Lake Credit Union.
