Obituary:
Claire Strawhand Myler, September 12, 1925 to December 7, 2013. Claire Irene Soares (Strawhand/Myler) was born and raised in San Jose, California, a third generation Californian of Portuguese ancestry. She moved to Ukiah in 1959 with her husband Straw and their daughter Sharon. The family owned and operated Straw’s Pizza in Ukiah for many years. Straw passed away in 1964 and after a few years Claire sold the restaurant and married James Myler, a long time telephone company employee. The couple lived on West Standley Street close to the western hills. In August of 2012, Jim passed away after a long illness. Claire remained in her home for a short time but due to failing health moved in with her daughter in Santa Rosa shortly after Jim’s passing. After a recent illness she passed away in Santa Rosa. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Strawhand Garner, stepchildren, Mylette Welch, Larry Myler, and Randal Myler, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The family will miss the gatherings at Claire and Jim’s welcoming home but their memories will be with them forever. A private family service will be held within the next few days.
