Obituary:
Donal Franklin Newby passed away on October 27, 2015 at the age of 81. He was born on his familys farm in Jonesboro, IN, living and working the farm until he joined the Navy. Upon his return from his service he helped with the family farm and worked at the RCA factory in Marion. He met his wife there and went on to managed a dairy, where his daughter was born. In 1964, he got into the insurance industry and was able to move to California through a transfer from that company. In 1967, he and his family moved to Potter Valley and he worked with Art Corippo as an insurance adjuster, eventually buying the business. He retired from insurance in 1999 and became a corrections officer at County of Mendocino Juvenile Hall. He loved his job at Juvenile Hall and worked full time until his retirement in 2009. He continued to work on an on-call basis up until June of this year. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eva; his father, Ernest and his brother, Darrell. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah; his granddaughter, Brittany Piedad; his nieces Connie Dailey and Michelle Moore; his brother John Newby; his sister, Cheryl Martini; his sister-in-law Janet Newby; their spouses and children; and his dear friend Judy Souder. He will be missed by a large family of friends and always remembered for his huge heart, loyalty, integrity and fun nature. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ukiah Elks Lodge on November 7, 2015 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elks Purple Pig or San Francisco VA Medical Center.
