Larry Nicholson passed away peacefully in his home on August 5th, 2011, while surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on July 8th, 1931 in McCook, Nebraska to Irene and Clyde Nicholson, but eventually settled in Washington State when he was 15. Larry struggled with Perthes Disease at a young age requiring him to use crutches most of his childhood. Larrys strong will prevailed and he played high school sports, graduating from Aberdeen High School in 1950. He was married to Marlene A. York, his wife of 42 years, until her passing in 1993. He moved his family to Ukiah in 1965. Larry was an all-around skilled craftsman with expertise in construction, roofing, electrical work, plumbing, cabinetmaking and general maintenance. He enjoyed life and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and gold panning whenever possible. He also loved sports and pitched fast-pitch softball for several years. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brothers Dwight and Monte, and his son Douglas. He is survived by his brother Gary and his sisters Dorothy, Joyce and Barbara. Larry in also survived by his children Dean, Daniel, Dale, Darrin, Darcy (Crook), Dominic and all their spouses, his foster son John Gaines, 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Larry will also be missed by several close friends. There will be a Celebration of Life potluck barbeque at Lake Mendocino Day Use Area Pomo-B on Saturday, August 13th, starting at noon. Those wishing to throw in a fishing line in his honor may show up earlier. All friends and family are invited and asked to bring a side dish. Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
